Kayaking & Canoeing

We will pack the picnic lunch so all you have to do is apply your sunscreen, grab a paddle and head for the water's edge. And don't forget your camera--because experiencing the rivers and lakes of the Litchfield Hills will make for memories certain to last a lifetime.

The scenic Housatonic River flows directly opposite Breadloaf Mountain Lodge, providing not only a beautiful backdrop to our property but a fabulous place to have some fun! Whether you bring your own or choose to rent, kayaking and canoeing on the Housatonic is something we encourage our guests to experience at least once. So sit back and relax as you paddle for miles along banks of unspoiled landscape. And, if you're lucky, you might even spot a bald eagle soaring overhead. We told you to bring your camera...

Clarke Outdoors, who we partner with, has been operating excursions on the Housatonic River for years. They offer a variety of packages which make it easy for our guests to experience the river, so please visit their web-site below for further information.

If lake boating holds more appeal, Breadloaf Mountain Lodge is conveniently located near a number of spectacular lakes where canoes, kayaks and/or small boats can be rented. Twin Lakes, in nearby Lakeville, provide a superb place for a day of family fun amid breathtaking natural beauty. And Lake Waramaug, located in the towns of Warren, Washington and Kent is the perfect spot from which to enjoy all the pleasures a lake has to offer--including swimming, canoeing and fishing.
