Hiking & Biking

Hiking in the Litchfield Hills and Southern Berkshires, with its varied terrain and spectacular views, is unparalleled. It is not uncommon to hike along marked trails for hours without seeing another person. Instead, you'll find cool streams, wild orchids and just about every shade of green or gold you can imagine--depending on the season. So take a deep breath of fresh air, lace up your hiking boots and revel in the abundant natural beauty surrounding Breadloaf Mountain Lodge.

We are more than happy to make suggestions regarding area hikes--including experiencing the famous Appalachian Trail which runs within a mile of our property--as well as to arrange for local guides or picnic lunches.

If you prefer biking, the Litchfield Hills offers challenging routes for the advanced rider as well as scenic, meandering paths for the novice. There are country lanes and covered bridges to explore as well as off-road trails if you are feeling more adventurous. And we can arrange for individual or group bike rentals if you are not able to travel with your own.
